I went to the library today to find a few books I was recommended. While scanning the shelves to look for one of my books, I recognized a few letters on the spines: MOR. I'd made it to the Morgan section!
So, in what feels like a fitting first post for this blog about just one of many Morgans in the world, I'll review a few books from other Morgans that piqued my interest! Maybe I’ll even make this a series.
The Books of Morgan
Death Is A Cabaret: An Antique Lover's Mystery by Deborah Morgan
This book caught my eye for two reasons:
1. I love a good mystery.
2. It's such a tiny book! Which, in my mind, means it must be really good.
Honestly, I didn't even read the description when I grabbed this. I just know it's a mystery. I'll leave a link to the Goodreads page after I finish reading since I want to go in blind. I'm putting full faith in Ms. Morgan for this one.
The Seven Autopsies of Nora Hanneman by Courtney E. Morgan
The cover of this one was so odd and a little unnerving–I had to get it! I read a bit of the blurb on the back and this book seems to be a collection of 19 stories about "psychosexual development." I read "A woman gives birth to a ball of twine and fur (among other things)," and I knew this book was for me.
Unnatural Fire by Fidelis Morgan
This is another one I don't know anything about. The cover is...interesting to say the least. I mean, look at that font choice! Fun fact about me, I love a book with a questionable cover design. The worse the photoshop, the better the story. I think this might be a mystery too? "A bodice-ripping romp through the 17th century underworld." –The Independent (London). Which sounds right up my alley, so I think my book radar is 3/3 when it comes to good finds going in mostly blind.
Right now, I'm most excited for Courtney's book. I really appreciate a good short story, it's so different than a novel since a short story writer can manage to get you invested in a few characters with just a few sentences. Not that a novel can't either, but I feel like it's just a different way of experiencing a story. I'll update once I finish! I have 3 weeks and they're average length (200-350 pages) so expect a full update by the end of the month.
